New Luxury Condos Planned For Downtown Durham
A local developer has revealed plans for a new luxury condominium project in downtown Durham’s Brightleaf Square District.
East West Partners, with offices in Chapel Hill, has submitted plans to the city for a 7-story building dubbed The Bartlett that will include 34 units and 6,000 square feet of retail space. From beginning to end, the project will cost about $25 million, says Bryson Powell, development director and partner at East West Partners.
His firm had been looking for opportunities to build a project downtown that included ownership units and settled on this site because of its location. “It’s a great sort of gateway project for folks who want to be close to downtown but maybe not in the core city center,” Bryson says.
The developers are waiting on approval from the city before closing on the property, located at 1105 West Main St. The 0.29-acre parcel currently belongs to Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, which has its office down the street, and is occupied by small retailers. If all goes according to plan, the new condo development could open by summer 2019. It will feature condos varying in size from 900 to 2,200 square feet, with a price range from $300,000 up to $1 million, according to Bryson.
Downtown Durham features many rental options, Bryson says, but there is growing interest in ownership opportunities. The Brannan and One City Center are two condo projects that have already sold out, he says.
The Bartlett is being designed by local architect Ellen Weinstein, of Weinstein Friedlien. Urban Durham Realty will handle the new condos and will begin taking reservations Jan. 2.
